The Azzurri’s* path (*it is referred to the colour of the team’s t-shirts)
Italy – Czech Republic 3-17
Too much of a gap between the two teams. The weak Azzurri’s teamwork was a massive issue, and powerful italian players couldn’t get the better end against such a stronger team as Czech Republic.
Italy – Sweden 3-16
This challange tasted again the value of teamwork that was exhibited by the Azzurri. And the poor collaboration among players demostrated their lack in workplace. Sweden players were definitely too experienced, so that they took advantage of every Italy’s hesitation.
Italy – Mexico 12-3
The last game of the first round featured the most fireworks: Italy demostrated its cohesion in the defensive and attack areas. The team spirit was increasing and players were all focused on achieving a common objective: obtain the first winning and rank the 3rd place of the first round.
Italy – Argentina 13-9
The Azzurri’s teamwork was getting better and they were developping new skills, strenght and balance. Argentina, with his many fouls in defense, could not get the better end in the field.
Italy – Denmark 10-3
It was the third winning in a row. Italy is proud and enthusiastic of its results and players felt like they were starting to have an “identity” in the game. Coach Pete Delisser’s work was finally coming out from his guys.
Italy –Switzerland 7-6
The most important winning for this second round had come. Players had a faultless game, as well as their Coach, involving technical and tactical points of view. Though, it was the sixth game in a row for Italy: players’ legs were about to give up. However, the Azzurri dind’t drop by the wayside and won versus Switzerland which were actually a stronger team than Italy.
Italy – Slovakia 4-10
Almost breathless and exhausted after their last game, Italy’s attacks were vains since the slovak goalkeeper was unsurmountable.
Italy – Latvia 13-8
Latvia had the most foul game of the World Championships, as well as a lack of techinique. During the game, Mannarino hurted terribly his knee (he crumpled onto the field because of a innatural movement of the leg). The Azzurri won the last game of the World Lacrosse Championship, ranking an honourable 19th place out of 30 registered teams.
